Butterflies in the Neighbourhood

Just as I have done with moths and dragonflies, I now want to record the various species of butterflies that I have found in the neighbourhood.  Again, I am amazed at the number of different types that inhabit this small area.

The following photograph will act as a bridge between this post and the next.  It introduces the Common Blue butterfly (Polyommatus icarus) which is an abundant little butterfly with an interesting history here in Quebec.

Just another quick post of two more insect photos. Butterflies are obvious choices as beautiful insects but I think this fly is quite stunning too!

Butterfly dreams

With this wonderful, almost balmy weather this week I am dreaming of spring and the beauty it brings. Here's a butterfly to dream upon.

Swallowtails & Snowflakes - Kaleidoscopes & Collages

Some time back I was experimenting with photographs and a photo-editing tool which transforms them into kaleidoscopic images. It is great fun and you never know what the results will be. Here is the original image (a Black Swallowtail butterfly on Daisies) and the kaleidoscopic image (which looks like a snowflake).
