Finding a Green Heron is exciting enough but getting to photograph one as it goes through some sort of feather ruffling exercise was a real treat. Here is the dapper fellow before, during and after! In the fourth photo he reminds me of a British butler asking for one's hat and coat. : -)
Thanks Flighty.Yes, I am amazed by the patience of herons. Thanks AC. As you saw from the e-mail I sent, I wasn't as close as it looks. However, had the heron been as big as a Great Blue, I wouldn't have needed to crop at all, I think.
Hi Didee. I'm not sure what he was thinking but he does seem to be looking directly at me. I had snapped four photos before he started the "ruffling routine" and I was so happy to catch him at each stage.
There are two main things which are important to me – beauty and compassion.
As a photographer, I try to capture and portray the incredible beauty of Nature.
As an animal rights advocate, I am a vegan and devote time to helping animals where I can.
The key is to treat all lifeforms with respect.
I have self-published two books of poetry with accompanying photographs entitled "Discoveries In The Dark" and "Longing For The Light" which can be found on Amazon.
Wonderful photos! Herons are such fascinating birds to watch. xx
ReplyDeleteNice. Looks smaller than the Blue one?
ReplyDeleteWere you close, or did you have to do a lot of cropping to make it look close?

What great timing! Were you the 'apple of his eye'? He seems to be looking right at you. :-)
