Woodchucks

Here is a short video clip taken in the spring of 2009 of a mother Woodchuck and her babies. One baby is determined to wrestle down a particularly ornery root! Mum has a look of resignation as her young ones tumble and play fight around her and she gives a deep sigh at one point. On another occasion she springs to attention when hearing a noise - always ready to defend her young!

  1. Always badgering us with your videos. I don't know the difference between badgers, groundhogs and woodchucks or if there is one. However, a number of years ago, we drove along a fairly busy street somewhere in Ottawa, and all sorts groundhogs were peering out of their burrows on the elevated side. I don't even know where it was. I wonder if they;re still there?

  3. Hi AC: well the Groundhog and the Woodchuck are the same animal but it seems that "Woodchuck" is the preferred name by those who decide these things. The Badger is a different but similar animal. I suspect you knew that but wanted to use it for your opening line! : -)
